Setting up our Camp:
Upon arriving at Hot Springs National Park, we stayed at the KOA, located about 3 miles from the park. We are KOA members and found the campground to be complete with the amenities we like when camping. A general store, spacious full-hookup campsite with privacy, and a pool to enjoy! Be sure to choose a campground that suits your needs and be ready to immerse yourself in the beauty of nature!

Hiking Trails:
Hot Springs National Park is renowned for its extensive network of hiking trails that wind through lush forests, alongside serene lakes, and up to breathtaking mountain vistas. Lace up your hiking boots and embark on family-friendly trails like the Sunset Trail or Balanced Rock Trail. These trails provide the perfect opportunity to witness the park’s diverse flora and fauna while creating lasting memories. We took advantage of the 3.5 miles drive within the park, parked at the observation tower, and took a 1.6 mile hike around the baseline. As a family, we enjoy getting outside and exploring the beautiful nature we are able to see!

Soothing Hot Springs:
One of the highlights of Hot Springs National Park is, of course, its namesake hot springs. After a day of hiking, you can relax and rejuvenate in the therapeutic waters of the natural hot springs. Take a dip in the historic Bathhouse Row, where you can enjoy a range of spa treatments and learn about the park’s rich cultural history. Let the soothing warmth of the water melt away your cares as you bond with your family in this unique natural oasis. We didn’t take advantage of the opportunity to visit the actual bathhouse and utilize it, but we did walk through the visitors center and a museum of how the bathhouses were setup 100 years ago.

The Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas is an ideal destination for adventurous families seeking an immersive camping experience. We did visit the Superior Bathhouse Brewery, which has great food and beer that is made from the thermal spring water! Rockport is a paradise for camping enthusiasts, with a variety of campgrounds and RV parks catering to families. One popular choice is the newly opened KOA, located close to town. Set against the backdrop of the stunning Aransas Bay, this rv park offers spacious campsites with ample amenities, including water and electric hookups, picnic tables, fire rings, and restrooms. You can enjoy fishing, swimming, or putt-putt, as well as enjoy relaxing at your campsite.

Another fantastic option is the Fulton Mansion State Historic Site, where you can tour the mansion and step back in time for a bit. We took advantage of the unique opportunity to take the tour and explore the historic site.

Rockport is known as the “Fishing Capital of Texas,” and you can try your luck in the bay waters or join a chartered deep-sea fishing trip. Catching redfish, trout, or even a massive tarpon can be a thrilling experience for the whole family. We are currently not a fishing family, but someday we plan to invest in a few poles to try our luck!

No trip to Rockport is complete without some quality time on the beach. Spend a day at Rockport Beach Park, a beautiful and family-friendly stretch of sandy shoreline. With picnic areas, playgrounds, and clean restrooms, it’s an ideal spot for relaxation and building sandcastles. The park also offers opportunities for kayaking, paddleboarding, and windsurfing, adding a touch of adventure to your beach outing. We had a great time at the beach, you can walk really far out in the sand, but watch out for jellyfish!

Embarking on a thrilling journey to the Smoky Mountains National Park is a dream come true for any nature-loving family seeking adventure and tranquility. With its awe-inspiring landscapes, challenging hiking trails, and captivating attractions, this destination offers an unforgettable experience for everyone. Join us as we recount our family’s RV adventure, exploring the magnificent Chimney Tops Trail, Laurel Falls Trail, Clingmans Dome, visiting the renowned Dollywood theme park, and finding solace in the charming town of Pigeon Forge.

We began our adventure with an exciting road trip to the Smoky Mountains. The drive itself was an awe-inspiring experience as we marveled at the changing landscapes and lush greenery along the way. It’s incredible how the scenery gradually transforms from flatlands to rolling hills and finally to the majestic mountains that greet you upon reaching the park. We drove the Cades Cove Loop one day, which took several hours due to the scenery, historic buildings, and traffic within the park. Definitely make time to check out the loop when you visit the park!

Our first hiking escapade took us to the exhilarating Chimney Tops Trail. This moderately challenging 4-mile round trip rewards hikers with breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. As we ascended through the dense forest, the trail led us to a series of rock formations that resemble towering chimneys, hence the name. The final stretch required some careful scrambling but reaching the summit was an accomplishment we’ll cherish forever. The stunning vistas of the Smokies made every step worthwhile.

Next, we ventured onto the picturesque Laurel Falls Trail, known for its enchanting waterfall and well-maintained path. This 2.6-mile hike, ideal for families, offers a glimpse into the park’s beauty and tranquility. The trail winds through a peaceful forest, with the sound of rushing water gradually growing louder as we approached the cascading Laurel Falls. The sight of the majestic waterfall surrounded by lush greenery was truly mesmerizing. We couldn’t resist dipping our toes in the refreshing pool at the base of the falls before continuing our journey.

No trip to the Smoky Mountains would be complete without a visit to the iconic Clingmans Dome, the highest point in Tennessee. As we ascended the steep half-mile trail, we couldn’t help but feel a sense of awe at the towering trees and sweeping views. Finally, we reached the observation tower perched at the summit, which rewarded us with a 360-degree panorama of the mountains stretching as far as the eye could see. The feeling of being on top of the world was truly unforgettable, and the cool mountain breeze refreshed our spirits.

To add some excitement to our trip, we couldn’t resist a visit to Dollywood, the renowned theme park located in the heart of Pigeon Forge. This family-friendly destination offers a plethora of thrilling rides, live entertainment, and delicious food. From heart-pounding roller coasters to captivating shows celebrating Appalachian culture, Dollywood provided endless fun and entertainment for everyone. The warm hospitality and enchanting atmosphere made us feel right at home.

After days of exploring the national park and indulging in theme park adventures, we retreated to the delightful town of Pigeon Forge. Nestled in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains, this vibrant town offers a blend of Southern hospitality, unique shops, and delicious dining options. We strolled through the quaint streets, discovering local treasures and enjoying mouthwatering Southern cuisine. Pigeon Forge provided the perfect balance of relaxation and entertainment, making it an ideal home base for our Smoky Mountains adventure.
